Vignette: a Pictorial Record of Life in the Fresno Assembly Center, Fresno Grapevine, 1942
Published by the staff of the Fresno Grapevine, the official newsletter of the Fresno Assembly Center, Vignette was released in October, 1942, shortly before the center's residents departed for WRA camps in Jerome, Arkansas, and Gila River, Arizona. As a retrospective for the temporary “assembly center” hastily constructed on the Fresno County Fairgrounds, the publication doubled as a commemorative camp directory, with residents broken down by barracks. The "grapevine" in the newsletter's title references the agricultural regions from which many internees earned their livelihood before being sent to camps. Select pages of the newsletter are presented here.
