A hand-drawn map of Gila River War Relocation Center by Keichi Imamura, [c. 1942-1944]
A talented cartoonist, Keichi Imamura was interned at the age of 11. In this map, he was careful to note different types of buildings throughout the camp. He also annotated the map with a compass rose and explanatory text: "MTNS" (mountains) and "we live here," referencing the barracks he shared with his parents, Keichi and Toshiko Imamura, among others.
